Cimetidine
Indications
Cimetidine is primarily indicated in conditions like Acid related dyspepsia, aspiration prophylaxis, benign gastric and duodenal ulceration, degradation of pancreatic enzyme supplements, Nsaid associated ulceration, peptic ulcer, stress ulcers prevention, zollinger ellison syndrome, and can also be given in adjunctive therepy as an alternative drug of choice in benign gastric ulcer, esophagitis, GI bleeding, heart burn, Pancreatic insufficiency.
Contraindications
Cimetidine is contraindicated in conditions like hypersensitivity.
Side Effects
The severe or irreversible side effects of cimetidine are HDL chlosterol level increase, dizziness, plasma creatinine, agitation, confusion, alopecia, tiredness, headache.
Available as 400mg tablets, 200mg/10ml and 100mg/10ml suspensions and 100mg/2ml injections.
